MId-Island Chapter Information

  • Chapter Meetings: January, March, May, September, and November on the 3rd Saturday, from 1:30 to 3:00, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 4235 Departure Bay Rd. Nanaimo (near Country Club Mall).

    Our guest speakers have been a variety of health care professionals: doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, optometrist, and hearing technician. In addition, speakers have provided information on driving and home safety,  scam protection, earthquake preparedness, and Lifeline. Some of our topics have been to do community outreach: Food Bank, and the Kidney Foundation. Providing information of medical issues, such as sleep apnea information, has been done.

    Care and Share Meetings – small attendance (no guest speaker) but a special time to share our heart journeys.  The participants have been encouraged and said “it “well worth the time spent together”.  We’ve been observed as a caring community, as this is the essence of volunteering.

    FUNDRAISING

  • Fundraising has been limited to selling Living Well Booklets, and 50-50 draws.

Campbell River Chapter Information

  • The Campbell River Chapter is a 100% volunteer group. It is not affiliated with any other agencies or government funded, nor is it the ‘Heart and Stroke Foundation’ (A good organization but with a different mandate).

  • Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month except for June, July, August and December.

    FUNDRAISING

  • Campbell River’s ‘Walk for Hearts’, our only fundraiser, is held on the first Sunday in May.

  • From 1990 to 2020, the Campbell River First Open Heart Society has donated over $330,000 for equipment and over $20,000 for training.

  • All funds stay in Campbell River, to provide:

    • support for local cardiac patients and their families, and

    • provide Cardiac Equipment and Cardiac Care Courses for Nurses and Technicians at the Campbell River Hospital and other Campbell River Area Organizations.
